We have some of the oldest vines in the Geographe region, planted in 1978.

Planted in 1978, Coughlan Estate is home to some of the oldest grape vines in the Geographe Wine Region. While only classified as an official Australian appellation in 1999, the grape growing potential in the region was identified decades earlier.

Coughlan Estate is a dry-grown vineyard with a very hands-on approach to vine management. A higher proportion of cooler nights in the region, compared to other neighbouring localities, means a sharp eye for detail in the vineyard is key.

Brad Coughlan lovingly manages the vines on site, roaming the lines of fruit each day and tending to their needs with traditional viticultural practices. The delicate and attentive approach to vineyard management extends to hand-pruning in the winter months and hand-picking all fruit at vintage.

The exceptional vine structure of Coughlan Estate can be attributed to the decades of dry growing conditions, exceptional soils; decomposed granite with flecks of iron-stone gravel, and beautiful draining at the site.

Spread over six acres, the 45-year old vineyard is home to Chenin Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Semillon. The maturity of the dry-grown vines is a key contributor to the exceptional quality of our fruit and its development in the vineyard and in the bottle.
